Wordle.net was created by Jonathan Feinberg, Senior Software Engineer at IBM Research. With Wordles, you can create "word clouds." You can create word clouds for any topic. Here are some ways I have used Wordle:

1. Students/teachers can create word clouds about themselves. (See example above.)
2. Students can create wordles about animals that they are studying. Students can then copy their wordle and put it into a Powerpoint along with a picture of the animal. Use Jing to copy the wordle and then paste it into Powerpoint. OR take a screen shot of your Wordle and insert that into your Power Point.
3. Students can copy and paste a story that they have written into Wordle. (Remember, the words that show up BIG in wordle are your most frequently used words.) This is a great tool to use for revising and editing.
4. Students can create wordles about a stories that they've read. The wordle below was created by a 2nd grader. I read a book to her and her group. Then the students created a list of "key" words from the story.

5. Use wordles so students can rearrange words and put them back into a sentence. Type a sentence into wordle, then click create. I used my area capture tool in SMART to take a picture of a wordle. Students then used the SMARTBoard to write the sentence correctly.

Tips and tricks when using Wordle:
1. Type your words into a Word document FIRST. You and your students can go back and edit a word document easily. If you type your words directly into Wordle and click create, you cannot go back! You will have to start over with your list of words:(
2. If you want to keep two words together (i.e. San Antonio, Mrs. Burford, first grade, etc.) put the symbol ~ between your two words so it looks like this: Mrs.~Burford
3. If you want to link Wordle.net to your webpage, blog, etc., consider linking your students straight to the "create" page. The URL would be this: www.wordle.net/create
I suggest sending students directly to the create page so they do not see wordles in the Gallery. Anyone and everyone can post wordles in the gallery, and sometimes there are some "not-so-nice" words on there. (BOO!)
4. Printing and saving: Sometimes the "print" button in Wordle is stubborn:) Use the "print screen" button on your keyboard to take an easy screen shot of your wordle. Then simply paste the Wordle into PowerPoint or MSWord. That's the simplest way to save a wordle that I know of. You can also use SMART Notebook software and do an area capture, if you're familiar with that feature in SMART.
